Keep tabs on your wedding vendors
and have back ups
I was checking out a community room for my son’s Bar Mitzvah and walked into a wedding disaster. One frantic woman was expecting wedding guests in two hours, but the wedding reception hall had been rented by another group. She even had a signed contract for the banquet hall that day, but so did the other group, which had just arrived. And by the way, the management hadn't’t even bothered to make sure the place was clean. I felt so bad for this woman and I hope she found a solution. But, it made me think how important it is to call all your wedding vendors periodically [maybe even every few weeks.] Especially with these tough economic times, a vendor may go out of business at the last second.
You really can’t reserve a reception site without a deposit, but maybe the church has a community room you can use if the reception vendor falls through. Identify a restaurant that can offer take out if your caterer bails. There are always Chinese restaurants that offer take out. Boston market has a big catering menu as do many other restaurants. However, I am sure that it takes time to prepare a lot of food, so the sooner you can call them, the better. In fact, restaurants may be a good thing to look into in the first place. In case the d.DJ. or band doesn’t show up, have some tunes on an iPod. Having back up plans can be more work, but it can provide more peace of mind, which most brides are in need of!
